For the YCN Student Awards, Cath Kidston wanted entrants to design a new conversational print, taking into account their brand values and print style. The print was required for use across three of Cath Kidston’s product categories; Women’s Fashion, Women’s Accessories and Home. The company was looking for an original theme and a fresh new take on their unique visual style.
Tackling the negative notion that insects are nothing more than "creepy crawlies", the response to this brief consisted of a number of botanical and insect prints. Rather than being repulsed by the idea of being covered in various species of crawling plants and insects, the intention was to sway the target audience to desire something they wouldn't normally.
